I missed a birth! This story is the perfect example of how you just can never predict when baby is coming… Normally I head to the hospital when Mama is about 6-7cm unless we discuss otherwise in our pre-birth consult . I was so excited for this birth - Stephanie and I hit it off like we were old friends the first time we met and she had plans of doing an all natural birth which in terms of photography means… a whole lot of amazing situations to capture for them… aka… variety! Anyway, Orianna had very different plans. Her mama went from “Hey, we are heading the hospital and will update you when we get there” to an hour later, “Baby is coming now!” Stephanie tells the story best and from her beautiful perspective, but I’ll do my best to give you the Cliff Notes; 3cm to a baby in her arms in under an HOUR! Whoa! Stephanie was amazing and it was a beautiful experience for her! I decided to head up to the hospital anyway to capture all the new baby snuggles and to be there when her sweet big brothers came to meet her for the first time and I’m so glad I did! Enjoy this sweet new arrival <3

Meet my newest niece… gah, I’m so smitten!!! Aside from being a mom, being “Auntie Tot” is one of my greatest blessings on this earth! Isn’t new life so amazing that it makes you catch your breathe? I know I am not alone in this!

I was so incredibly humbled when Jenna Kutcher reached out and asked me to photograph the birth of their double rainbow baby! I’m not gonna lie, I was a tad bit anxious and excited to have been asked. It’s not like I haven’t photographed a ton of births in my 17 years of business, but I knew that this one would likely be the most viewed. My goal at every single birth is really simple… just capture their story, no matter how it unfolds. With this, I take a true documentary approach where I don’t like to change the scene or put my voice into how I think the room/day/relationships should look. I won’t turn on a light or open a blind because I want to capture how the story really looked and I might just enjoy the challenge a little, too, in different lighting situations. I once photographed nearly an entire birth with only two candles lit in a dark room! Anyway, back to the Kutchers… my goal wasn’t going to change, just capture their beautiful love story. Little did I know that after spending 14 hours with Jenna, Drew, Sue (mom) and Kate (sister), that I would fall in love with who each of them are, their relationships and love for one another, and the immense love that this sweet new baby would feel in her first moments in life. Every birth story is unique and beautiful – Conley Kate’s was absolutely no exception! This small-town, hobby-farm-owning, mommy of two (plus 3 miscarriages and a stillborn daughter), girl with a tiny following on Instagram (Jenna, you’d be ashamed at my marketing technique!), and long-time photographer girl is so very humbled by the love and support from Drew & Jenna and the community that so greatly surrounds and supports them! I’ll forever cherish capturing Conley’s birth… not because of her last name but because I gained the sweetest friends and got to document a beautiful beginning of an amazing love story! I am not as good with words as Ms. Jenna is, but I can say that even if I was, I wouldn’t have the words to describe how grateful I am to have met this sweet family. Welcome to the world beautiful little Conley Kate, you are loved more than you can ever fathom!
